'What 3 Words', or a better title for this article may be - 'Good to know'!
I am sure we are all familiar with having to talk to a tradesperson or a delivery driver and in some cases emergency services about how to get to our homes, despite them having the address and postcode. Sadly, as we know, postcodes cover a large area and as all houses in the village have names instead of numbers, this can make it very difficult for people to navigate that last few hundred yards.
What 3 Words has looked at solving these issues by dividing the Whole World into 3 metre squares and giving each square a unique combination of three words.
In reality this means your house will cover several of these squares. So, you could choose, for example, to give a friend a square for the front door, but a different square to a courier driver such as for the end of your drive.
To demonstrate - Boraston Church Lynch Gate is located in the square called ///vouch.soaps.javelin but the entrance to the church is in the square called ///paddock.cover.escalates.
Why have we put this is on the Village Website? Well we think that despite it being handy for delivery drivers and tradespeople, given an increasing number are using it, it is invaluable for assisting emergency services - who have been using this form of grid referencing for some time. In a situation where every second counts, the last thing you want is them struggling to find your exact location.
We suggest it may be helpful for all residents to keep their what3words unique location by their phone or some place easily accessible, so they have it to hand if needed in an emergency. We invite you to share this suggestion with your neighbours, family and friends so they are aware of this useful tool.
If you are not sure how to get your unique location for your home then do not hesitate to speak to Lesley or myself and we will be happy to help.
